Former Prime Minister John Howard says defence should never be used as a bargaining chip in negotiating exemptions from Donald Trump’s tariffs. Speaking to the Insiders on Background podcast, Mr Howard says the “Liberation Day” tariffs are “bad economics”, predicting it will ultimately cost President Trump politically.
