It came as there was more emotionally-charged scenes in the ITV soap
Coronation Street fans couldn’t help but point out an unexpected ‘crossover’ with Emmerdale in the show’s latest episode and claimed it was a tribute.
There was more emotionally-charged scenes in the ITV soap on Wednesday night (April 2) as Dee-Dee Bailey revealed the emergency action doctors had to take after her health concerns were dismissed amid the birth of her first child.
As viewers saw earlier this week, Dee-Dee went into labour after her initial pains had earlier been dismissed during a visit to the hospital’s maternity unit.
While she was seen by a nurse, Dee-Dee’s pain wasn’t taken seriously due to the staff in the ward being overworked. But her high blood pressure was noted.
It was later revealed, as she was rushed back to the hospital after her waters broke, that she had pre-eclampsia and the baby needed to arrive immediately.
It was also after the traumatic birth that Dee-Dee was dismissed, with a nurse not listening to her requests about not breastfeeding or having skin-to-skin contact because she wasn’t going to be keeping her little girl, as well as ignoring her complaints of extreme fatigue and general feeling of being unwell.
Dee-Dee then fell unconscious and it was discovered that she was bleeding heavily, something she was heard hinting at as she told the nurse she felt wet “down there”.
It was during Wednesday night’s (March 2) Corrie that Dee-Dee told her family the doctors had to perform an emergency hysterectomy in order to save her life, meaning she wouldn’t be able to carry another child.
Her dad Ed encouraged her to rethink her decision to gave up her daughter, who James had named Leila, and her brothers also pressed her to take more time to think about what she really wants following her devastating news.
But it was James’ choice of name for the baby girl which has caught the attention of both Corrie and Emmerdale fans as it reminded them of the late Leyla Harding, who tragically died as a result of a Valentine’s Day limo crash in the Dales in February.
@Cafi2k said: “James naming the baby after our fallen diva #corrie,” wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter alongside a picture of actress Roxy Shahidi as Leyla.
@rjsmichonne2 replied: “Still can’t actually believe she’s dead.”
@HasanHussain777 commented: “It’s nice that they’ve named the baby Leyla but it’s this Leyla we want back… #Corrie #Emmerdale.” @FredDav69988907 added: “We just lost one leyla on the soaps #emmerdale along comes another one #corrie.”
