Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has asked health officials to completely eradicate bird flu from Andhra Pradesh.

“Keep antiviral drugs available at all the health centres, he said during a review he held with a five-member central team and state officials on bird flu at the Secretariat on Friday.

The central team informed the CM that the cause of death of the two-year girl was bird flu and other health issues. They visited the girl’s residence at Balaiah Nagar, Narasaraopet, in Palnadu district.

They said though the samples collected from the girl tested positive for H5N1, there were some other reasons too for her death.

“The girl ate a piece of raw chicken meat without proper immunity and developed leptospirosis. Poor sanitation contributed to her death. At present, we found no symptoms of bird flu among the people in the area. We carried out a survey involving eight teams of health personnel. There is no cause for any panic,” they said.
