Ben Stiller to Star in Music Industry Dramedy The Band at HBO

Ben Stiller is looking for the next big thing in pop.

The actor is attached to star in and executive-produce the music industry dramedy The Band, which is in development at HBO, TVLine has confirmed.

The one-hour project “offers an inside look at the music industry centered on Oscar (played by Stiller), a pop impresario and talent mogul beset by scandal who is tasked with forming a new act in order to save his career – and perhaps his soul,” reads the official synopsis.

While Stiller has appeared in episodes of Arrested Development, Another Period and Burning Love, he hasn’t headlined a TV series in recent years, instead serving as an executive producer and/or director on Apple TV+’s Severance and High Desert, and the Showtime limited series Escape at Dannemora.

Stiller is known for his acting roles on the big screen in movies such as Zoolander, the Meet the Fockers films, Tropic Thunder and There’s Something About Mary. He next reprises his role as Hal in Netflix’s Happy Gilmore sequel movie.

The Band comes from Search Party co-creators Sarah Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers, who will serve as writers, showrunners and executive producers on the potential series. Stiller will exec-produce via his Red Hour Films.
